Seconds draw at Leicestershire

Friday 8th May 2015
Written by Danny Painter

Derbyshire Second XI played out a draw with reigning Second XI Championship winners Leicestershire in a rain-affected fixture at Grace Road.

In an attempt to force an outcome, Leicestershire declared their first innings on just 60-1 before Derbyshire declared their second innings having not faced a ball.

The home side were set 333 to win after the two declarations but could only reach 160-4 by the time the two captains, Tom Poynton and Dan Redfern, shook hands on a draw. Derbyshire took home nine points while Leicestershire claimed seven.

Trialists Michael Comber and Liam Hurt took one Leicestershire wicket apiece and there were also wickets for Tom Knight (1-9) and Greg Cork (1-23).

Matthew Pardoe top-scored for the hosts with 75, before falling to the spin of Knight, but it wasn’t enough to force a result as the heavy rain on Day Two meant that the match was drawn.
