Harry White starred with the ball as Derbyshire performed admirably despite losing to a strong Yorkshire Second XI at Scarborough.

The reigning LV= County Championship champions fielded England batsman Adam Lyth, Australia World Cup winner Glenn Maxwell and former England Test bowler Ryan Sidebottom as they won by eight wickets.

Derbyshire batted first and made 228, with teenagers Ryan Bramwell (44) and Matt Critchley (35) in the runs despite Sidebottom taking 3-30 who was ably backed up by Maxwell with 2-14.

The experienced Yorkshire batting lineup were soon reduced to 140-7 in reply, with White (3-50) removing Lyth for nine before dismissing Maxwell for a second ball duck, and Will Davis taking 2-34 from 18 overs.

Yorkshire rallied through Will Rhodes, who made an unbeaten 124, and eventually declared on 255-7.

Moin Ashraf, who featured in last year’s title-winning team, took 4-36 to help reduce Derbyshire to 69-5 in their second innings before Greg Cork (65) and Harvey Hosein (57) combined to guide the visitors to a total of 222.

White was then once again too good for Lyth, who is set to open the batting for England in the Ashes this summer, as he had the batsman caught and bowled for a second ball duck.

Yorkshire reached their victory target of 196 for the loss of one further wicket, with Maxwell falling three runs short of his century as he was bowled by Davis for 97.
