Falcons unchanged for visit of Northants

Thursday 30th July 2015
Written by Danny Painter

Elite Performance Director Graeme Welch has named an unchanged squad as Derbyshire Falcons continue their Royal London One-Day Cup campaign at home to Northamptonshire Steelbacks tomorrow; 2pm start.

The Falcons are aiming for their second win of the competition at The 3aaa County Ground tomorrow, and they will be looking to bounce back from yesterday’s six-wicket (D/L) defeat to Gloucestershire at Bristol.

There were centuries for Hamish Rutherford (110) and Wayne Madsen (106*) as Derbyshire posted 274-5 from their 48 overs, with rain falling at various stages of Gloucestershire’s chase to eventually leave them requiring 68 runs from their final four overs.

But Jack Taylor hit an unbeaten 41 from just 14 balls as Gloucestershire snatched an unlikely victory following drama off the final ball where Derbyshire were penalised with a no-ball for having too many fielders on the leg-side.

Ben Slater will be pushing for his first List-A appearance of the season, while seam bowler Greg Cork will be hoping for a recall to the starting XI after missing out in the last two fixtures.

DERBYSHIRE squad to play Northamptonshire:

3. Wes Durston
1. Billy Godleman
72. Hamish Rutherford
26. Ben Slater
22. Chesney Hughes
77. Wayne Madsen
18. Alex Hughes
57. Shiv Thakor
23. Tom Poynton
20. Matt Critchley
14. Greg Cork
36. Ben Cotton
4. Mark Footitt

OPPOSITION

Northamptonshire began the competition with consecutive defeats, including a mammoth 220-run defeat at the hands of Surrey, but they bounced back with victory over Leicestershire this week.

Josh Cobb scored 86 against his old county while Rob Keogh (50) also hit a half-century as Northamptonshire posted 244-9 from their 50 overs. Leicestershire could only muster 189 in response as Olly Stone (3-36) and Steven Crook (3-38) took three wickets apiece to earn their side victory by 55 runs.

England all-rounder David Willey is fit again after making his return from an ankle ligament injury that has kept him out of action for the past month.

South Africa duo Richard Levi and Rory Kleinveldt are also set to feature for Northants in tomorrow’s fixture.

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE squad to play Derbyshire:

Willey*, Cobb, Crook, Duckett+, Levi, Keogh, Rossington, Stone, Kleinveldt, White, Peters, Newton, Zaib
