All-rounder Alex Hughes hailed a professional performance as Derbyshire Falcons overcame Leicestershire Foxes by six wickets in the Royal London One-Day Cup at The 3aaa County Ground.

Hughes led the way with the ball to claim career-best figures of 3-31 from his ten overs as Derbyshire dismissed the visitors for 156 in 41 overs.

The Falcons successfully reached their victory target with 19 overs remaining with Captain Wes Durston continuing his good form with a fluent 80 before former Shiv Thakor (27 not out) saw his side over the line.

Hughes was delighted to secure the county’s third win of the campaign ahead of the final two fixtures away at Durham on Monday 17 August and at home to Worcestershire on Tuesday 18 August.

“It was a great all-round team performance. It was another professional job done and another two points,” said Hughes.

“It was great to take some wickets, it was a couple of soft wickets to get but I will take them anyway. I’ve hit the ball to cover many times when I’ve been batting so to get those wickets, I am very happy.

“Ben (Cotton) and Shiv (Thakor) set the tone well at the start. Ben has been really good this year in all forms he has played, to start how he did today against a dangerous player like Cosgrove and keep him to two maidens put us in a good position and put some pressure on them.

“Durham is now a very big game for us. We have two games left and if we win both of them we will go through and it’s in our hands.

“It is about a week and a half away but we are looking forward to it already and we have given ourselves a good chance.”
