Derbyshire Second XI were just denied victory in their Second XI Championship match with MCC Universities as the game finished with the hosts requiring just one more wicket to win.
The visitors were set a near unattainable target of 377 to win at Denby and were 236-9 at stumps despite the best efforts of Cricket Derbyshire Academy, in partnership with the University of Derby graduate Adam Wheatcroft who returned 4-47.
Wheatcroft was well supported by David Wainwright who found turn on the final day pitch to take 3-23 as Derbyshire Seconds looked to be on course for another win.
The other two wickets fell to the pace of Tom Milnes and Tom Taylor who backed up the four wickets they both took during the first innings but the Seconds could not finish off the MCCU tail as only 78 overs were bowled in the day.
