Top-order batsman Neil Broom, who has signed a two-year contract with Derbyshire, brings a wealth of international and domestic experience in all forms to The 3aaa County Ground.

Broom has played first-class cricket in his native country for more than 13 years and has spent the last decade turning out for Otago having moved from his home province Canterbury where he began his career.

The New Zealander will join the Derbyshire ranks boasting a first-class average of 40 having scored over 6,000 runs in 109 fixtures.

Known for his aggressive style and having a speciality in hitting over the in-field, Broom has also excelled in the shorter formats of the game and has earned himself over 30 appearances for New Zealand after earning his first ODI call-up in the 2009 series with West Indies.

In January 2015, Broom hit his fourth List A century to take his tally of List A runs over 3,000 in over a century of matches with an average of 34.82 and a top score of 164.

His Twenty20 batting index, meanwhile, sits currently at 142. Whilst playing in the World T20 League in India in 2013, Broom lashed 117 off just 56 balls for Otago versus Perth Scorchers to return the highest score in the competition in five years.

Broom joins Derbyshire on a two-year deal, qualifying with a UK Passport, and will play alongside fellow New Zealander Hamish Rutherford who will also spend the entire season at the Club as overseas, subject to any commitments with the national side.
