An unbeaten 87-run partnership between Derbyshire pair Neil Broom and Hamish Rutherford guided Otago to victory over Northern Districts in the Ford Trophy overnight.

Broom, who hit 54 and 124 not out in his last two fixtures, hit his third consecutive score of fifty or more with an unbeaten 69 off 76 balls, including nine fours and one six.

He was ably assisted by Hamish Rutherford who struck six fours and to sixes in his 47 not out off just 39 balls, as Otago successfully chased down 182 in 28 overs for the loss of two wickets.

Broom remains the leading run scorer in the domestic 50-over competition, with 382 runs at an average of 95, while Rutherford has scored 200 runs at an average of 40 – both from six matches.
