Critchley hits unbeaten 77 in Second XI defeat

Matt Critchley hit 77 not out whilst Ben Slater added 36, but Lancashire claimed victory in the opening Second XI One-Day Trophy fixture at Hem Heath CC.

Derbyshire won the toss and elected to bowl, with paceman Rob Hemmings returning figures of 3-18 from his nine overs and Ben Cotton (2-28) taking two wickets.

Brooke Guest top-scored for Lancashire hitting 73 before being run out by Tom Wood, whilst Aaron Lilly added 36 as Lancashire posted 204-9 from their innings.

Derbyshire began the chase with openers Ben Slater (36) and John Hancock (2) but Hancock was dismissed by Danny Lamb (3-38) lbw in the fourth over.

Two quick wickets then fell, before Critchley responded to top-score with an unbeaten 77, including five sixes. Charlie Macdonell added 20, but three wickets each for Lilley and Lamb restricted Derbyshire to 173 and Lancashire claimed victory by 31 runs.

The Second XI are next in action against Lancashire in a three-day Championship match from 18 – 20 April at Hem Heath CC.
