Derbyshire’s bowling attack could be strengthened for their Specsavers County Championship fixture with Gloucestershire thanks to the returns of Will Davis and Ben Cotton.
Davis and Cotton were absent from the county’s last outing versus Essex due to injury, but both returned for the Second XI against Lancashire this week.
Wayne Madsen admits that Derbyshire’s bowling has not quite clicked yet, but with the possible additions of Davis and Cotton next week, that could change.
He said: “We only had three seamers in the game with Essex, so we were a bit light on bowlers, but you have to make do with what you’ve got in terms of your attack.
“Tom Milnes bowled exceptionally well under the circumstances and deserved his success.
“We’ve now got two home games and we’re determined to put in some good performances. We have to improve and find a way to take 20 wickets.
“We are doing everything in our power to make sure we win not just a game, but a couple of games this season.”
During the Essex fixture, Madsen became the first man in Division Two to pass 1,000 runs – the fourth successive year the batsman has passed the milestone.
He added: “It’s very special and it’s a nice accolade, but at the end of the day I would love to be winning more games of cricket.
“It’s about helping this team to win games and be more consistent and there’s a lot of work to do in that respect. As a team we have to improve.”
