Written by Danny Painter

Will Davis has been named in his first Specsavers County Championship squad as Derbyshire travel to Hove to face Sussex from Saturday 28 May.

Davis comes into the squad to replace Tom Milnes whilst Derbyshire are otherwise unchanged from the side that were defeated by Kent last time out.

Shiv Thakor comes into the four-day encounter on the back of a superb all-round performance as he scored a century before taking his maiden first-class five-wicket haul, becoming only the 11th Derbyshire player to score a century and claim five wickets in the same innings.

Wayne Madsen also found form in the match versus Kent, scoring his second century of the campaign, whilst Ben Cotton picked up three wickets in the first innings.

22. Chesney Hughes
72. Hamish Rutherford
77. Wayne Madsen

57. Shiv Thakor

Opposition

Sussex come into Saturday’s match having drawn all of their Specsavers County Championship matches so far, including the reverse fixture between the two sides at Derby earlier this month.

Ed Joyce hit 250 in that match and has begun his season in fine form alongside Kiwi Ross Taylor who has added another dimension to the Sussex middle-order.

They will, however, be once again without Luke Wright who is injured and Chris Jordan who is currently representing Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

Sussex squad: Danny Briggs, Ben Brown, Harry Finch, Lewis Hatchett, Ed Joyce, Matt Machan, Steve Magoffin, Chris Nash, Ollie Robinson, Ajmal Shahzad, Ross Taylor, Luke Wells, Stuart Whittingham
