The Specsavers County Championship match between Derbyshire and Northamptonshire at Queen’s Park was abandoned without a ball bowled after the bowlers’ run-ups were deemed unsafe.
On the morning of Day Three, bowlers from either side practiced their run-ups at the Lake End of Queen’s Park but, after it was clear that the ground was moving significantly underfoot, the umpires deemed the outfield unsuitable and the day’s play was abandoned.
The umpires conducted a further inspection at 3pm on Day Three, in order to determine whether or not play could go ahead on the final day. The decision was made that the run-ups would not improve significantly enough for the ground to be made safe, and the match was abandoned.
The match is Derbyshire’s first total County Championship abandonment since May 1981. Sunday’s NatWest T20 Blast match versus Yorkshire Vikings has been moved to The 3aaa County Ground to give the game the best chance of going ahead.
Supporters who purchased a ticket for the abandoned fixtures at Chesterfield can used their ticket to get in to any other day of cricket hosted by Derbyshire in 2016, other than the Category A fixture versus Yorkshire Vikings. Or you can claim a full refund.
Matchday ticket should be retained and can be used for free entry to any other match during the same season (except Category A matches). Alternatively, a refund may be claimed by applying in writing to the ticket office enclosing your ticket(s) along with your name and address.
Derbyshire are back in NatWest T20 Blast action at The 3aaa County Ground on Sunday 10 July when they welcome local rivals Yorkshire Vikings. Supporters can save 20% by purchasing their tickets in advance.
