Derby Telegraph have thrown their support behind the Club’s #WereBackingTheBid campaign for Derby to be a host city for the ICC Women’s World Cup in 2017.

Derby Telegraph will be keeping readers across Derbyshire up-to-date with all the latest developments around the Club’s bid and the installation of the landmark set of giant stumps which will symbolise the bid.

This will include regular editorial content as we build towards the official unveiling of the stumps in July. The newspaper will also publish the names of each of the 100 companies who are pledging to back the bid.

The Club announced its intention to bid for Derby to become a host city for the Women’s World Cup in England in 2017 at the start of April. As part of the announcement, the Club unveiled plans for a set of giant cricket stumps to be located at the gateway of the City on the Pentagon Roundabout.

The stumps will be funded by 100 local businesses and private donors who will each pledge £500 to become part of the #WereBackingTheBid campaign and be involved in the development, unveiling and publicity surrounding the sculpture as well as featuring on a Partners Plaque.

Derby Telegraph Editor in Chief, Neil White said: “We are proud to be supporting Derbyshire County Cricket Club’s bid to bring international cricket to Derby and for the city to be on the sporting world stage.

“We will be following the bid and publishing the names of the local businesses who have pledged their support.”

Derbyshire Chief Executive, Simon Storey added: “The giant stumps demonstrate our commitment – together with our partners – to the City of Derby as a great place to live, work, enjoy sport and as a great destination for visitors from across the world.

“With the business community coming together to deliver the giant stumps, we will be in an exceptionally strong position to demonstrate that the whole City is behind the ICC Women’s World Cup when the opportunity to submit our bid arrives later this year.”

To show your support and back the bid with a £500 pledge, please contact Maxine Holtam on 01332 388 121 or email [email protected].
