Derbyshire claim victory on Day Four
Derbyshire claimed six wickets before lunch to secure a big win over Leicestershire in the Specsavers County Championship.
Luis Reece (3-47) and Ravi Rampaul (3-38) each claimed two wickets early on Day Four, while Logan van Beek (1-33) and Tony Palladino (2-30) also struck to dismiss Leicestershire for 168 at the Fischer County Ground.
The hosts had finished a rain-hit Day Three on 110-4, still needing a further 124 runs to win the game. However, six wickets for 58 runs on the final morning means that Derbyshire will head back to The Pattonair County Ground with the win.
Hasan Azad finished Day Three on 44 not out, but he was unable to add to his overnight score before Reece had him caught by Wayne Madsen for the first wicket of the morning.
Harry Dearden (11) was the next to fall as Reece claimed his third wicket of the innings, trapping the Leicestershire man lbw with 101 runs still required to win the game.
Logan van Beek got in on the act next, when Matt Critchley caught Dieter Klein (5) after a bit of juggling in the slips, before Ravi Rampaul had Hill caught behind for six to swing the game firmly in Derbyshire’s favour.
Rampaul was among the wickets again in his next over, having Will Davis caught behind by Hosein for two, leaving Leicestershire 151-9, still needing 83 runs to the closely-fought contest.
Palladino led the way for Derbyshire in the first innings, claiming a five-wicket haul. Fittingly, he was the man to confirm victory, bowling Muhammad Abbas for 11 to claim his 400th wicket in County Championship cricket.
