Derbyshire Second XI in good position after Day Two

Charlie Macdonell’s 149 put Derbyshire in a good position, before Lancashire declared in an attempt to set up a result on Day Two of the Second XI Championship clash against Lancashire.

Centurion Macdonell added 13 to his overnight score before being caught at deep mid-wicket. Shortly after, batsman Callum Brodrick was out to Aaron Lilley for 46.

Toby Lester (5-79) had Tom Taylor caught for 4 then Rob Hemmings went without scoring as Danny Lamb (3-83) took his wicket, both being caught at third man.

Ben Cotton finished on five not out and Hamidullah Qadri hit three before he was the last man out, out lbw to Lester, Derbyshire posting 386.

Pace bowler Taylor (1-47) struck first with the ball as opener Karl Brown edged to the gloves of Harvey Hosein for nine. New batsman Calum Turner went for 15, bowled by Rob Hemmings (1-26) for 15.

Josh Bohannon and Rob Jones reached their half-centuries before the tea interval, sharing a partnership worth 114 runs until Matt Critchley bowled Bohannon for 53.

Jones went on to reach his century in quick time, finishing on an unbeaten 130 which included 22 fours. Wicketkeeper-batsman Brooke Guest added 42 as Lancashire declared on 268-4 – trailing by 118.

Derbyshire resume the final day at Hem Heath CC on 8-0, leading by 126, with Ben Slater and John Hancock opening the batting.
