Derbyshire has signed fast bowler Dustin Melton until the end of the 2020 season.

Melton, 24, has impressed for the Second XI throughout the season, with best figures of 4-8 in the Second XI Championship, while he has also appeared in one Second XI Trophy match for the county, taking 2-26 as Derbyshire beat Nottinghamshire by seven wickets in May.

He made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in the Aston Lark Tourist Fixture against Australia, where he competed with the likes of Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja.

Head of Cricket, Dave Houghton said: “We have been impressed with Dustin this year, he has worked hard and performed well.

“It’s good for us to have such depth and quality in our bowling ranks, and he will add another element of pace and bounce.”

Melton added: “It has been a dream of mine since arriving in the country four years ago, so it is the highlight of my career to fulfil that dream and sign a professional contract with Derbyshire.

“This is a great opportunity for me, I have enjoyed my time with the club so far and I am looking forward to the challenge of competing for a place in the team.”
