All-rounder Wes Durston believes preparation will be key to the Club’s success in limited-overs cricket next season.

Durston was appointed NatWest T20 Blast Captain in March of this year, while he was installed as the Royal London One-Day Cup skipper midway through the competition.

The 35-year-old believes that his side will be better prepared next time around and backed the squad to build on their performances in 2015.

“I think the fact that we have more time to prepare for the NatWest T20 Blast and the Royal London One-Day Cup than last year will be invaluable,” said Durston.

“Everyone wants to be fully prepared for both of those competitions but also for the four-day stuff as well and hopefully we can improve across the board in all three forms.

“We will back ourselves completely, we have seen that other counties in our division were successful in the shorter formats and that should inspire us.

“We’ve competed with all of those teams and beaten them in the last couple of years. It gives us good heart, we can draw on the fact that those teams have been there and competed in big occasions.

“We haven’t been able to go on a run of victories that has enabled us to compete for trophies, but we have beaten all the teams around us. If we can put a run together in all formats then we are going to be competing at the back-end of each competition, and that’s where we want to be.”

The Club have already strengthened ahead of the new season with the signings of bowlers Andy Carter and Tom Milnes, as well as New Zealand batting duo Hamish Rutherford and Neil Broom. Durston insists that the close-season acquisitions will only improve his side’s chances.

“They will all bring their own experiences, they have all plied their trade elsewhere and they will be coming in and trying to do their best for Derbyshire County Cricket Club which is hugely exciting,” added Durston.

“We will see (Tom) Milnes and (Andy) Carter on a day-to-day basis and they are going to be fully integrated as part of the squad over the next few weeks.

“We know Hamish well and we are looking forward to welcoming him back to the Club. Neil Broom is also coming in and hopefully will give us a lot of stability in the batting line-up and I am sure he will prove to be a very shrewd signing.”
