Wes Durston returned from injury as the Second XI claimed an eight-wicket win, with Scott Elstone hitting an unbeaten 85, against Notts Outlaws in a One-Day Trophy fixture at Worksop College.

Durston made his first appearance since the NatWest T20 Blast fixture versus Northants Steelbacks at the end of May after recovering from an intercostal muscle injury.

All-rounder Tom Milnes also made a return after a spell out through injury. Both Milnes and Durston have been named in the squad for Friday night’s NatWest T20 Blast match against Worcestershire at New Road.

After winning the toss, Derbyshire reduced the hosts to 40-3 with Milnes (2-35), who took two in two balls including that of Chris Read first ball, and Andy Carter (3-37) taking the wickets – all caught behind by Harvey Hosein.

Durston, captaining the side, was given some game time ahead of the Custom Solar Chesterfield Festival of Cricket starting Sunday and claimed 2-34 from his nine overs with the ball.

He broke up a partnership of 54 between Greg Smith (33) and Will Gidman (33) when he removed Smith, with Nottinghamshire 94-4 in 25th over.

Gidman was caught by Durston off Alex Hughes (1-27) five overs later. While Anuj Dal hit 35, Nottinghamshire closed their innings on 191-8 after a good display in the field by the Falcons.

Jonathan Tattersall (7) and Durston opened the batting and shared 21 for the first wicket before the former was dismissed in the fourth over by Jack Blatherwick (1-33), with Derbyshire 21-1.

Durston was dismissed for 19 shortly after, caught by Dal off Ben Kitt (1-35), but that was the last success for the hosts as Elstone and Charlie MacDonnell shared an unbroken 151-run stand to see their side to victory.

Elstone hit an unbeaten 85 off 111 balls, including nine fours and one six, while MacDonnell scored 67 not out off 102 balls, including seven fours, as Derbyshire were triumphant by eight wickets.
