Essex wrap up victory on Day Three

Friday 11th September 2015
Written by Danny Painter

Ravi Bopara (4-29) and Ryan ten Doeschate (3-15) helped Essex wrap up victory on Day Three against Derbyshire at The 3aaa County Ground.

The hosts began Day Three on 102-3,  a deficit of 268 runs after being asked to follow on, but, despite some early resistance from night-watchmen Ben Cotton (13) and Wayne Madsen (38), were dismissed shortly before lunch with Essex claiming victory by an innings and 188 runs.

Derbyshire came through the first 45 minutes on the third morning unscathed, with Cotton playing some fluent shots before he was first out caught at slip off the bowling of Bopara for 13.

Madsen showed resistance in his innings of 38 but ten Doeschate took two wickets in an over to leave Derbyshire 171-6.

The Holland international then grabbed his third by trapping Tom Poynton lbw for 0 and with Shiv Thakor and Tony Palladino unable to bat, Mark Footitt was the last man in for Derbyshire.

Bopara, who ended with four wickets, had Footitt caught at mid-wicket shortly after with Derbyshire all out for 182.
