Neil Broom top scored with 68 off 43 balls, but a record stand between Mark Stoneman and Calum MacLeod helped Durham to victory to end Derbyshire’s hopes of a quarter-final spot.
The Durham innings was built around the record-breaking 141-run stand between Stoneman (82 not out) and MacLeod (83), as the hosts posted an imposing 193-2.
The Falcons fought all the way until the final over, with Broom leading the way with a half-century and Wes Durston hitting 44, but it wasn’t enough as Derbyshire closed on 180-9, with the Jets winning by 13 runs.
The defeat means Derbyshire end the NatWest T20 Blast campaign with 12 points, two points short of a place in the last eight.
Asked to bat first, Stoneman and Keaton Jennings shared a 48-run opening stand before a superb catch from Chesney Hughes off Shiv Thakor broke the partnership; Jennings gone for 17.
But the rest of the innings belonged to the Jets and the stand between Stoneman and MacLeod. The pair put on 141 in 13.4 overs, the highest stand for the second wicket for Durham which ended in the final over of the innings.
Scotsman MacLeod was the aggressor smashing 83 off just 50 balls, including five fours and three sixes before falling to Jimmy Neesham, who was the Falcons’ standout bowler with 1-25 off his four overs.
Stoneman carried his bat to end the innings unbeaten on 82 off 56 balls, eight fours and one six, to hit his highest score for the county, as Jets closed on 193-2.
Despite the early loss of Hamish Rutherford (1), Durston led the chase hitting 44 off just 26 balls, including five fours and one six. When he fell, Derbyshire were 67-3 in the eighth over.
The Falcons, however, were unable to stay with the required rate and lost regular wicket to slip to 95-5 in the 13th over. But Derbyshire continued to fight, with first Shiv Thakor hitting a brisk 26 off just 10 balls, including three sixes, to help his side to 135-6 after 15 overs.
Broom batted nicely to complete his half-century off just 33 balls, and he kept the Falcons in touch, requiring 22 off the last to win.
After a boundary off the first ball, Broom, however, fell to the third delivery for an excellent 68 off 43 balls as Derbyshire fell short and the Jets claimed victory by 13 runs.
