Derbyshire Falcons warmed-up for the NatWest T20 Blast with a convincing 104-run win against a Kevin Dean Invitational XI at Alvaston & Boulton Cricket Club.

Opener Tom Wood and Wayne Madsen both hit half centuries as Derbyshire posted 195-8 off their 20 overs.

Alex Hughes and Matt Critchley then both took three wickets, while Hardus Viljoen claimed two, as the Invitational XI were all out for 91 in 17.3 overs.

Billy Godleman (26) and Wood shared a 51-run opening stand after being put in to bat.

Two quick wickets fell before Wood was third man out, for a well-made 54. New man Madsen then took over the scoring mantle, hitting a half-century of his own before being dismissed for 54.

Hughes provided some late impetus to the innings smashing 29 off 12 balls, as the Falcons posted a formidable 195-8.

Derbyshire then took regular wickets to seal a comfortable victory. Madsen (2-9), opening the bowling, took two wickets, while new ball partner Viljoen (2-25) also claimed two scalps.

The remaining six wickets were shared between Hughes (3-13) and Critchley (3-19) as the Kevin Dean Invitational XI were all out for 91.
