Ferguson relishing exciting bowling attack
Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is relishing to the opportunity to play for Derbyshire as part of an exciting and aggressive bowling attack.
The 27-year old admits he is still adapting his game to the shorter format, but he is taking positives from the opening two Vitality Blast matches during which he took two wickets at an average of 25.
He said: “We worked hard and we were trying to be aggressive to take wickets. I think that’s the exciting thing about our attack so we’re looking forward to the next game.
“The upcoming games are a good opportunity for us to bounce back. Once you get that win, everyone will be confident so that’s what I’ll keep telling the boys – keep going and the wins will come.”
He added: “It’s also another challenge to play for a team where you are expected to turn up and take wickets and where other players may be looking to you for inspiration.
“It’s a big benefit having players like Wahab [Riaz] and Ravi [Rampaul] in the side who have calm heads.”
“I think slower balls are a big part of the game now, if you can bowl pace that’s great but it can also go at the same speed to the boundary which I’m well aware of.
“I’m still developing my T20 game, but I’m taking a lot of positives from the first two games. The slower ball seems to be gripping nicely here in the UK and I’ve got the short ball which I’m trying to use effectively as well.”
The New Zealand international is hoping to develop his game and perform well for the Falcons to put himself in contention to play for his country on the world stage.
He said: “I’ve got a bit of experience playing in the UK, but not a lot if I’m honest so it’s a good opportunity for me.
“Especially with the World Cup here next year, any experience I can get to play will be beneficial going forward.
“I feel comfortable playing at this level and I’m definitely keen to carry on developing my game to push myself towards higher honours with the Black Caps.”
