Five for Wes on final day

Wes Durston continued his superb form across all formats to claim 5-75 after scoring 64, but the Second XI fell just two wickets short of victory on the final day versus Worcestershire at Derby.

Derbyshire’s one-day skipper scored 64 at almost a run-a-ball as the hosts set Worcestershire 335 to win, after declaring their second innings on 227-4, with Scott Elstone also continuing his fruitful run in the Seconds to hit 66 not out, alongside Callum Parkinson who finished 43 not out.

In pursuit of 335, Worcestershire made a great start as George Rhodes and Ollie Westbury put on 136 for the first wicket, but Rhodes was first man out to Greg Cork (1-67) on 68.

Alexei Kervezee joined Westbury but could only hit 15 before being the first of Durston’s victims and he then removed top-scorer Westbury for 83 to leave the visitors 181-3.

Alex Hepburn added 43 from 27 balls but he was stumped by James Sookias off Durston before Alex Milton was caught off Durston in the all-rounder’s next over.

Two balls later, Durston completed his five-wicket haul when Elstone took the catch of Joshua Dell (17) as Derbyshire ramped up the pressure in the final session in search of victory.

Parkinson (1-48) picked up the wicket of Ben Twohig shortly after, and then Harry White (1-38) cleaned up Zen Malik as the visitors crumbled from 136-0, to 238-8.

The hosts could not, however, wrap up victory as Josh Tongue faced 28 balls without scoring a run to see his side to a draw.
