Billy Godleman hit his maiden List A century as Derbyshire Falcons defeated Northamptonshire Steelbacks by seven wickets in the Royal London One-Day Cup at The 3aaa County Ground.

Derbyshire dismissed the visitors for 231 off the final ball of their innings, with Matt Critchley the pick of the bowlers returning career-best figures of 4-48. Ben Cotton (2-50), Mark Footitt (2-54), Alex Hughes (1-38) and Shiv Thakor (1-39) were also amongst the wickets.

In reply, Godleman carried his bat hitting seven fours and two sixes in his unbeaten innings of 109, while Wayne Madsen hit 52 as the Falcons reached the victory target with ten balls to spare to claim their second win of the competition.

Opening batsmen Richard Levi and Josh Cobb got Northamptonshire off to a good start as they helped their side to reach 50 without the loss of a wicket from 11 overs.

Critchley broke the partnership in his first over however, as he grabbed his maiden List-A wicket by having South African international Levi caught by Alex Hughes for 26.

Thakor bowled Rob Keogh for 15 as Derbyshire began to keep a lid on things after a promising start from the visitors.

Cobb shared a useful third-wicket partnership of 68 with Ben Duckett before the latter was well held in the deep by Godleman when on 25 to present Footitt with his first wicket.

Footitt then claimed his second scalp as he had England all-rounder David Willey caught by Critchley for just one to restrict Northamptonshire to 148-4.

Alex Hughes had Saif Zaib caught by Captain Wes Durston at mid-off for 11, before Critchley got his second as Steven Crook was caught on the boundary for 12 with the score on 191-6 with seven overs remaining.

Critchley then removed Rory Kleinveldt and Graeme White in successive deliveries to finish with 4-48 from his ten overs.

Cobb brought up his century from 135 balls in the penultimate over but, along with Muhammad Azharullah, he was bowled by Ben Cotton in the final over as Northants were dismissed for 231.

Openers Durston and Billy Godleman got the Derbyshire chase off to a flyer as they reached 53-0 inside ten overs. A partnership of 68 came to an end at the start of the 16th over as Durston was dismissed for 37, with Graeme White trapping him in front of his stumps.

Godleman and Madsen calmly guided their side to 101-1 after 24 overs before Godleman brought his half-century up from 95 balls four overs later.

Madsen reached his own half-century in a second-wicket partnership worth 104, but was trapped lbw by Willey the following ball with the score on 172-2.

Critchley was promoted up the order to number four but he was dismissed for nine after Olly Stone took a fine catch over his shoulder to give Willey his second wicket.

Godleman, who brought up his century from 151 balls, remained cool at the end alongside Chesney Hughes as Derbyshire reached 232-3 with ten balls to spare.
