Captain Billy Godleman expects a hard fought game in the Specsavers County Championship fixture against Gloucestershire at The 3aaa County Ground, starting on Wednesday.

The two sides played out a high scoring draw in the first game of the season earlier this summer, with Wayne Madsen and Chesney Hughes both scoring hundreds.

Godleman said: “I don’t see it being any different this week here. They are always a difficult team to play against but we are confident that our mixture of youth and experience can go out and play some good cricket this week.”

It has been just over two weeks since Derbyshire’s last game, but despite being away from cricket, Godleman says the time has been well received.

He added: “Some of the squad had some time away from cricket. It has obviously been a very full on season so sometimes it’s good to get some valuable family time and just get away from cricket and come back refreshed.

“Some of the guys played in the second team last week against Lancashire, so it’s all very much down to the individual.”

Will Davis and Ben Cotton both returned from injury in the Second XI game against Lancashire, with the pair taking a wicket each.

They have both been selected in the 13-man squad for the Gloucestershire game, and will add extra pace bowling options.

“It’s always good, you can never have enough options in your bowling department so to have Will and Ben back, and to have the opportunity for them to be up for selection is really helpful for us.”
