Billy Godleman has signed a new two-year contract with Derbyshire, committing him to the Club until the end of the 2018 season.

The 27-year-old became the Club’s four-day Captain at the start of the summer after a standout 2015 campaign in which he scored over 1,000 first-class runs for the first time, including three centuries in as many innings.

The opening batsman has enjoyed another stellar campaign in 2016, so far scoring 849 runs in 10 matches at an average of 47, including a career-best 204 versus Worcestershire in June.

Head Coach, John Sadler said: “Billy has been a rock at the top of the order for us. He has been a consistent performer over the last few years and continues to improve, both as a cricketer and as a person.

“He is now an experienced senior player and a leader within the dressing room that the younger players can learn and gain advice from.

“He is another player, alongside Shiv and Wayne who have both also signed long-term deals, we can build a successful team around.”

Godleman added: “I’m delighted to extend my deal and commit my future to Derbyshire. I want to continue to improve and play a leading role both on and off the field as we push for success.

“There’s exciting plans for the upcoming seasons and I hope I can play my part in bringing trophies to Derbyshire.”
