Billy Godleman (141) hit his ninth first-class century for Derbyshire and Shiv Thakor (132) posted his highest score for the Club on Day Three versus Leicestershire at The 3aaa County Ground.

The pair added 167 to their overnight score in a record second-wicket stand for the Club against Leicestershire, worth 236. Gary Wilson added 97 as Derbyshire posted their highest first-class score against Leicestershire, closing on 532-8, trailing by 87 runs.

Thakor said: “We were quite a long way behind the eight ball at the end of the first innings so it was important we put in a good performance and showed some fight.

“Not many teams make 619 on a bad pitch so that’s nice to have in the back of your mind so it was about breaking it down into smaller chunks and batting for time, runs come naturally as the game flows which you saw with their innings so we knew if we batted for long enough we would be there or thereabouts.”

Thakor reached his half-century from 81 balls, including ten fours, in the third over of the morning.

Godleman soon followed in reaching his next milestone, a drive through the covers for four bringing up his second century of the season from 170 balls, including 17 fours.

Thakor cut Clint McKay fine for four with ten minutes to go before lunch, achieving his maiden first-class century of the season in 160 balls.

As the partnership moved onto 210 and the score 295-1, Derbyshire set the record for the highest second wicket partnership for the county against Leicestershire, breaking the previous best of 209.

Thakor was eventually out to McKay, caught behind by Lewis Hill for 132, his highest first-class score for Derbyshire.

Wayne Madsen (2) was out not long after, caught by Ned Eckersley at short cover, McKay picking up his second wicket.

Alex Hughes fell in the next over, caught at second slip by Harry Dearden off Dieter Klein for four.

Gary Wilson came in at six and hit three fours in the 89th over off Klein, as Derbyshire passed 350 and collected a fourth batting point. Godleman was bowled by Chappell, in from around the wicket, for 141, his ninth first-class score of 100 or more for the Club.

Wilson and Daryn Smit (40) added 81 in 18 overs either side of tea, before Smit was caught at first slip by Dearden off Klein with the score 465-6. Jeevan Mendis was out without scoring, caught at point by McKay, Colin Ackermann drawing a leading edge.

Derbyshire passed 500 in the 131st over but soon after, Wilson was out for a well-made 97, playing onto his stumps from Chappell.

Tom Taylor and Rob Hemmings saw out the remainder of the day, not out on 16 and 19 respectively, guiding Derbyshire to 532-8 at the close of play.
