Harvey Hosein struck a half-century as Derbyshire faced Yorkshire in two Second XI T20s at Glossop.

Joss Morgan also hit 5o in the first match of the day, which the hosts lost by 16 runs, before Hosein (57) top-scored in a 58-run victory for Derbyshire.

Jack Leaning hit 61 for Yorkshire in the opening game, and then took 5-21 in the second match, while Matthew Waite took four wickets across the two matches.

MATCH ONE – Yorkshire won by 16 runs.

A half-century from Morgan could not prevent Derbyshire from defeat in their opening Second XI T20 against Yorkshire at Glossop.

Despite 50 from the Derbyshire batsman, a top-scoring 61 from Leaning won the game for the visitors, with Waite taking 3-38 as Derbyshire hit 163-8 in reply to Yorkshire’s 179-2.

Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat, with the opening pair of Will Fraine (45) and Ben Birkhead (41) combining for a partnership of 84 runs before the latter was run out by Harvey Hosein.

Leaning’s knock proved to be decisive, having arrived at his 50 in 29 balls, including three fours and four sixes and then continuing to finish the innings unbeaten on 61.

Derbyshire’s were chasing a score of 180, but Jack Redman (1) was caught by Ed Barnes off Waite, while the further wickets of Anuj Dal (0), Hosein (17), Tom Wood (11) and Sam Oldham (5) all fell before Derbyshire had passed 50.

Morgan and Connor Marshall provided the only half-century stand of the innings, with the pair making 58 runs for the seventh wicket, with Derbyshire still needing 64 runs to win from less than five overs.

Ultimately, the hosts could not chase down the total, ending with a score of 163-8 from their 20 overs.

GAME TWO – Derbyshire win by 58 runs

57 from Hosein helped Derbyshire to a 58-run victory in the final Second XI T20 of the day.

Hosein top-scored as the hosts scored 164-8, despite Leaning’s five-wicket haul, before Arthur Godsal took 5-19 as Yorkshire were bowled out for 106.

Hosein opened the batting for Derbyshire with Wood (31), and the pair put on 54 runs for the first wicket before the latter was caught by Birkhead off Leaning.

Hosein proceeded to have partnerships upwards of 30 runs with Dal (19) and Oldham (4) respectively, reaching his half-century in including five fours and one six as Derbyshire posted a total of 164-8 from their 20 overs.

Alfie Gleadall (1-20) made the first breakthrough of the day when he had Birkhead (5) caught by Dal, with Yorkshire 20-1 in the third over.

Godsal’s pivotal four-over spell went for just 19 runs and saw him claim the wickets of Matthew Revis (18), Waite (9), Leaning (3), Bilal Anjam (9) and Joshua Shaw (9) as Yorkshire fell 59 runs short of the required total.
