Harvey Hosein struck 58 as Derbyshire faced Leicestershire in two Second XI Twenty20 matches.

The wicketkeeper-batsman top-scored for the visitors in a losing effort at the Fischer County Ground, before the final game of the day was halted due to rain.

Nick Welch smashed 84 from 59 balls as the hosts hit 155-2 to win the match with five balls to spare, after Derbyshire had posted a total of 154-9 from their 20 overs.

GAME ONE – Leicestershire won by eight wickets

Harvey Hosein’s half-century wasn’t enough as Derbyshire were beaten by eight wickets in the first Second XI T20 of the day at the Fischer County Ground.

The Derbyshire man made 58 as Derbyshire managed a total of 154-9 in their innings, setting the hosts 155 to win the opening game.

Nick Welch’s 84 proved decisive, as Leicestershire made it to 155-2 with five balls of the match to spare, with crucial support from Hasan Azad’s 43.

The hosts won the toss and elected to bowl, a decision that was instantly vindicated when Ben Mike bowled Tom Lace (3), while Tom Wood (14) was bowled by Brinder Phagura soon after.

Hosein remained at the crease until the 16th over, bringing up his half-century in 41 balls, including four fours and three sixes before he was caught by Welch off Mike (4-27).

A partnership of 33 for the eighth wicket between Hutchinson (19) and Alfie Gleadall (11) helped the visitors to a score of 154-9 setting Leicestershire a target of 155 to win.

Welch opened the batting for the hosts but lost his partner when Sam Evans was caught by Nils Priestley off Arthur Godsal for three.

Azad arrived at the crease and began a pivotal partnership with Welch, as the pair compiled 125 runs for the second wicket in just 86 balls, before the former was caught by Jos Morgan off Godsal for 43.

With five balls of the innings remaining, Ateeq Javid (14 not out) hit Gleadall for four to secure an eight-wicket win for the hosts, with Welch unbeaten on 84.
