Fynn Hudson-Prentice says that a tough couple of years have made him determined to make an impact with Derbyshire.

The all-rounder has signed a three-year deal with the club which will begin on 1 July, after impressing for the Second XI while on trial.

Hudson-Prentice is a product of the MCC Young Cricketers Programme, which he joined after being released by Sussex in 2016.

Speaking to BBC Radio Derby, the 23-year-old admits that he struggled with being let go, but believes that he has developed as a player in the last year and is now ready to make the step-up with Derbyshire.

“It has been a tough couple of years, after being released by Sussex and trying to get myself back up for it. In the last six to eight months, I have really found my own game,” said Hudson-Prentice.

“Being released was a pretty tough experience, it was almost like trying to find yourself again. That was the hardest part, thinking ‘am I good enough’ or ‘do people rate me’, but the first few months of the season have been great.

“The MCC’s help to get me back to where I am now has been really good and I am really looking forward to what comes over the next three years.

“Now it is about trying to push forward and get a first team place. Obviously there is healthy competition in and around the squad at the moment, Derbyshire are doing well in the County Championship, so I have to find a way of getting into the team and staying there.”

During his time with Sussex, Hudson-Prentice worked with current Derbyshire Assistant and Bowling Coach, Steve Kirby.

He is excited to link-up with the former fast bowler again, after enjoying a good spell under Kirby earlier in his career.

“I am absolutely delighted to be able to work with Steve Kirby again,” added Hudson-Prentice

“When he was my Head Coach he was the one that gave me that love for cricket again. It is unbelievable to be able to say that I will be working with him full-time for the next few years.”
