Alex Hughes has been presented his County Cap by Derbyshire County Cricket Club.

The 25-year-old was awarded his cap by Captain Billy Godleman prior to lunch on Day Two versus Kent at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield. He is the 112th Derbyshire player to receive his County Cap.

The all-rounder, who has established himself as a regular in all formats, has enjoyed his best season in a Derbyshire shirt, hitting 658 first-class runs, to date, at an average of 35. He also topped the county’s Royal London One-Day Cup averages and added 180 runs in the NatWest T20 Blast.

Hughes is the second Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby graduate to be awarded a County Cap by Derbyshire, following Dan Redfern in 2012.

He has to date scored 1,280 first-class runs across 43 matches for Derbyshire, including three centuries with a top-score of 140 versus Gloucestershire in September 2016.

Hughes has a List A top-score of 96 not out versus Leicestershire earlier this season, whilst in Twenty20 cricket he has career-bests of 43 not out with the bat and 3-23 with the ball.
