Macdonell and Cork in for Essex match

Friday 12th August 2016
Written by Danny Painter

Charlie Macdonell and Greg Cork have been rewarded for their good form for the Second XI by being picked in the 13-man squad to face Essex in the Specsavers County Championship this weekend.

Hamish Rutherford is not selected and Shiv Thakor misses out with a niggle, whilst Ben Cotton and Will Davis are still unavailable due after recent injuries. Harvey Hosein and Tom Taylor remain sidelined on the long-term injury list.

Tom Milnes and Callum Parkinson retain their places in the squad after good performances in the last fixture at Leicestershire. Parkinson will be looking to build on his seven wickets and 48 not out on first-class debut, whilst Milnes will hope to continue his form with the new ball.

Opposition

Essex currently sit at the top of the Specsavers County Championship Division Two, aiming to return to Division One since their relegation in 2010.

They have strengthened their already impressive squad by signing Yorkshire’s Will Rhodes on loan for the rest of the season and he will go straight into their squad for The 3aaa County Ground clash.

Tom Westley is likely to be Essex’s main threat with the bat, having scored 844 runs at an average of 49.65 so far this season.

Graham Napier is Essex’s top wicket-taker, having claimed 43 batsmen this season, whilst Jamie Porter, Matthew Quinn and former England international Ravi Bopara provide able support with the ball in hand.
