Madsen tops NatWest T20 Blast PCA rankings

Wayne Madsen has finished top of this season’s PCA Most Valuable Player Rankings for NatWest T20 Blast.

Madsen, who ended the competition as the county’s leading run scorer, claimed 211 points from 14 fixtures and finished 18 points clear of second placed Samit Patel.

The 33-year-old, who was voted by supporters as the PCA Player of the Month for July, ended the Twenty20 campaign with 526 runs – the most ever scored in a season by a Derbyshire player – and included nine scores of 30 or more.

His four half-centuries in 2017 is also a new joint Club record, with Luis Reece who also hit four fifties this campaign.

Madsen also took 13 wickets with his off-spin, used on a numerous occasions at the start of the innings, at an economy rate of 7.36 which was the best of any Derbyshire player.

The PCA MVP Rankings system identifies the match-winners and key influencers of matches throughout the domestic season. The formula takes into account conditions, quality of opposition, captaincy and strike-rates, as well as runs, scored and wickets taken.

24,312 supporters attended a NatWest T20 Blast fixture at either The 3aaa County Ground or Queen’s Park in 2017 – a new aggregate attendance record for the Club.

Average attendance also grew to a record high of over 3,400, while the Club also achieved sold out crowds for the fixtures versus Yorkshire Vikings at Chesterfield and the quarter-final against Hampshire at Derby.
