Milnes takes five in Second XI win

Tom Milnes took 5-37 as Derbyshire Second XI claimed a thrilling final day win against Durham at Belper.

The visitors declared on their overnight score of 84-1 in an attempt to set up a result on the last day of the Second XI County Championship match.

In response, Derbyshire reached 122-5 in 18.5 overs to set Durham a target of 343 to win. Charlie Macdonell top scored with an unbeaten 37, while Callum Brodrick added 26.

All-rounder Milnes led the hosts’ attack as they went in search of 10 wickets to win the match. He removed four of the top six batsmen as Durham slipped to 120-6.

When James Weighell was seventh man out, with Durham 132-7, Milnes had completed his five-wicket haul, before finishing with match-winning figures 5-37 off 18 overs, including six maidens.

Usman Arshad (38) and Bradley Yates (57) provided some late resistance for the visitors, but two wickets each in the day from Gurjit Sandhu (2-54) and Rob Hemmings (2-24) helped seal victory.

Durham were all out for 226 as Derbyshire claimed victory by 117 runs.
