Reece claims 50th wicket on Day Two
Luis Reece claimed his 50th Specsavers County Championship wicket of the season as Derbyshire struck twice on a rain-affected Day Two against Middlesex.
Reece had Martin Andersson caught behind for eight to reach the milestone, while Anuj Dal also struck as Derbyshire reduced the hosts to 199-5 at Lord’s.
Rain meant that just eight overs were bowled on the second day, with Dawid Malan (66 not out) and James Harris (yet to score) to resume on Day Three.
Heavy rain throughout the morning meant that no play was possible before lunch, with the first ball of the day bowled at 1.50pm on Day Two, where Malan and Anderson returned to the crease.
However, the latter was only able to add four runs to his overnight score before Reece had him caught by Harvey Hosein to claim his 50th county championship wicket of the season.
Dal has claimed three wickets in each of Derbyshire’s last two first-class matches, and he made his mark at Lord’s when he trapped John Simpson (4) lbw.
Bad light forced the players off immediately after the wicket, before heavy rain at Lord’s prevented any further play. Middlesex will resume on Day Three 199-5, with Malan unbeaten on 66 and Harris yet to score.
