Luis Reece is targeting a return to cricket later this summer as he continues to recover from a broken metatarsal injury.

The powerful all-rounder suffered the injury to his right foot in the Royal London One-Day Cup match against Yorkshire Vikings at the end of May. He has since undergone successful surgery and now begins a structured and tailored recovery process.

He said: “The surgery seems to have gone well. I’m just trying to let it settle down and take the swelling out of the foot.

“Yesterday was the first day back in the gym after my surgery. It was good to be back doing things, but everything is on track and it’s a case of taking it week-by-week.

“I’ve got to tick boxes as I progress, but currently it’s still non-weight bearing and I’m still on crutches.”

The Club’s medical staff continue to liaise with doctors following the operation and Reece is hopeful that with a structured rehabilitation programme in place, he can return to the field before the season is out.

Reece added: “They’re in constant contact and that will remain for the next few weeks until I’m starting the rehab side of things. I’m lucky with the support we’ve had.

“I hope to return this summer. It’ll depend how my body reacts over the next few weeks and making sure the bone is healing together.

“I’ll be doing everything I can from my side – whether that’s rest or nutritionally and in the gym to give my body the best chance of recovery.”
