VIDEO: Reece reviews 2019 season

Friday 18th October 2019
Written by Stephen Martin

Luis Reece believes that the success of Derbyshire’s 2019 will be defined by how the squad build on it moving forward.

Having played a key role across all three formats, Reece says that the standout performance of reaching the Vitality Blast Finals Day does not mask disappointing showings in the Specsavers County Championship and Royal London One-Day Cup.

However, after the emergence of a number of young players in the first team, and a host of brilliant individual performances throughout 2019, Reece feels that the way Derbyshire build on the foundations laid this year will determine just how successful the season was for the club.

“It’s been a year of near-misses, really,” Reece said.

“Getting to Finals Day was great, but at the end of the day we lost in the semi-final. In the County Championship, if we are being brutally honest, we have to be disappointed that we didn’t push for promotion.

“We played some good cricket, and picked up some good results along the way. but there is room for progress and improvement.

“Going into this winter, there are areas we can improve on and hopefully we can implement them next year and go one step further. Ultimately, the goal has got to be silverware, it doesn’t matter what personal accolades people achieve, it is all about winning for Derbyshire.”
