Second XI beaten by strong Notts T20 side

Derbyshire Second XI were beaten in back-to-back Twenty20 games by a strong Nottinghamshire side at Worksop College.

Derbyshire won the toss and decided to bowl in the first match. Matt Sonczak (2-44), a trialist from Eckington Cricket Club, took two wickets on his first appearance for the Second XI. Tom Milnes (2-26) took the other two wickets as Nottinghamshire posted 173-4.

Rob Hemmings hit an unbeaten 43, including two fours and three sixes, and Tom Wood, back from injury, added 29 in reply, but Derbyshire fell short as Notts claimed victory by 30 runs.

For the second of the Twenty20 fixtures at Worksop College, two changes were made as young off-spinner Hamidullah Qadri and all-rounder Greg Cork were brought into the side.

Derbyshire won the toss again and decided to bat and Cricket Derbyshire Academy in partnership with the University of Derby graduate Callum Brodrick joint top scored with a well-made 60 off 32 balls, which included four fours and three sixes.

Opener Wood also hit 60, his off 33 balls with six fours and three sixes, while Harvey Hosein added 36 as Derbyshire posted 194-7.

Qadri, opening the bowling, bowled four tights overs and returned figures of 2-16, but a blistering 90 not out from Australia international Daniel Christian helped his side to victory.

The all-rounder struck 11 fours and three sixes in his 47-ball knock, while Jake Libby hit 42 as the hosts reached their target with one ball to spare.
