Derbyshire Second XI were defeated by Nottinghamshire on the final day of the Second XI Championship fixture at The 3aaa County Ground.

Jake Libby, Will Root and Steven Mullaney each struck a century as the visitors chased down 446 with eight wickets to spare.

Derbyshire had looked to be in a commanding position after Day Two as Tom Taylor had removed opener Greg Smith to reduce Nottinghamshire to 33-1, facing a long chase ahead.

That was to be the only wicket to fall for some time as Libby and Root put on a mammoth 242 runs for the second wicket to give their side a chance of reaching the unlikely total.

By the time Jonathan Clare caught him off David Wainwright’s bowling, Libby had scored 123 and his side had gained control with the score on 254-2.

Mullaney came to the crease at number four and decided to attack the Derbyshire bowling. He scored at more than a-run-a-ball throughout his innings, eventually finishing on 119 not out from only 94 balls.

Root was also still there at the end, unbeaten on 166 as Nottinghamshire reached 449-2 to win by eight wickets.
