Second XI draw in high-scoring match

Thursday 22nd June 2017
Written by Danny Painter

Despite opening the day with a first innings lead, Derbyshire Second XI were forced to settle for a draw as a strong Yorkshire side fought back in their Championship match at York CC.

Three wickets on the opening day from Sam Conners helped Derbyshire dismiss Yorkshire for 302, before a well-made ton from Michael Jones (100) and 75 from Greg Cork steered Derbyshire to 383, a first innings lead of 81.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore (230) led the recovery for the hosts in their final innings, who declared on 426-3 shortly after tea on the final day, at which stage the captains shook hands with no result possible.

Resuming Day Three on 47-0, Kohler-Cadmore and Jonathan Tattersall added a further 52 before Tattersall was lbw to Hamidullah Qadri for 31.

William Rhodes hit 38 in as many balls, but his quickfire innings came to an end when he was out lbw to Charlie Macdonell.

Kohler-Cadmore took the game to safety after tea, striking 27 fours and ten sixes on his way to 230. He was eventually out to Macdonell, caught by Josh Lacey. Jack Leaning was unbeaten on 112 as Yorkshire declared and the game ended in a draw.

Derbyshire Second XI are next in action on Monday 26 June when they face MCC Young Cricketers in a Second XI Championship match at Glossop CC.
