Derbyshire’s Second XI three-day friendly against Essex finished as a draw, after only 3.4 overs play were possible due to persistent rain on Day Three at Billericay CC.

Experienced opener Nick Browne (34 not out) and Feroze Khushi (12 not out) were unbeaten overnight, but they could only take the score to 77-1 before rain halted play and ultimately brought an end to the match.

Earlier in the match, Daryn Smit hit an unbeaten 137 to add to half-centuries from Fynn Hudson-Prentice (76) and Connor Marshall (71) as Derbyshire posted 443 in the second innings.

Marshall (3-28), Sam Conners (3-52) and Dustin Melton (3-33) also took three wickets apiece on Day One as the visitors bowled Essex out for 173.
