Derbyshire drew with Northamptonshire on Day Three of the Second XI Championship fixture at Hem Heath.

Matt Critchley top-scored with 156 for the hosts, while Connor Marshall (59) also made a half-century as Derbyshire posted a total of 472 in their first innings.

Saif Zaib (68 not out) and Rob Newton (58) helped Northamptonshire to a score of 216-5 on the final afternoon, as neither side was able to secure a win.

Critchley began the day on 155, but was only able to add one run to his score before the all-rounder was bowled by Harry Bates early on the third morning.

Marshall arrived at the crease with Derbyshire 408-8 and put together a positive innings, reaching his half-century in just 55 balls, including six fours and one six.

His 63-ball innings came to an end when he was caught by Williams off the bowling of Jesse Dinnie, as the hosts’ innings came to and end on 472, leading by 119.

Just as he did in the first innings, Tony Palladino started strongly with the ball and claimed the wicket of Dinnie (5) with just his fifth delivery.

Zaib top-scored on Day One with a score of 136, and he was once again in the runs as he reached his half-century in 65 balls, including one four and three sixes, shortly after Newton had also brought up 50.

A partnership of 89 between the two gave Northamptonshire a strong base for the innings, despite three wickets from Critchley (3-72) on Day Three.

Zaib was also a part of the biggest partnership of the innings, putting on 105 with Tom Keast (44 not out) as the game ended in a draw at Hem Heath.
