Tom Taylor (3-19) and Tom Milnes (3-33) claimed three wickets apiece as the Second XI were held to a draw by Nottinghamshire on the final day of the three-day friendly at Notts Sports Club.

Following Derbyshire’s first innings total of 258, where Tom Knight top-scored with 97, Nottinghamshire opted to declare on 132-2 following a rain-affected Day Two with half-centuries for Greg Smith (54) and Josh Libby (52 not out).

Derbyshire resumed on 13-0 on the morning of Day Three and scored at a fast pace with Ben Slater hitting 13 boundaries in his unbeaten innings of 78 from 114 balls, while Knight scored his second fifty of the match as he finished 61 not out from just 31 balls, with six fours and four sixes.

The visitors declared on 172-2, setting Nottinghamshire 299 to win the match.

Notts were quickly reduced to 38-4 as Taylor trapped both opening batsmen Libby and Smith lbw, prior to having Will Gidman caught by Tom Knight for four. Jon Steel also chipped in by removing Sam Wood for five.

Following a brief recovery, Notts slipped from 95-4 to 98-8 as Will Davis removed Billy Root lbw for 32 to trigger a collapse in the lower order in which Milnes took three quick wickets.

But despite Steel removing Tom Keast for ten with the score on 126-9, Anuj Dal (58 not out) and Matthew Carter (23 not out) held firm with an unbroken partnership of 46 to ensure Nottinghamshire closed on 172-9 to draw the match.
