Seconds lose on Day Four

Thursday 5th September 2019
Written by Stephen Martin

A century from Mattie McKiernan (134) was not enough as Derbyshire were beaten by Middlesex on Day Four of the Second XI friendly at Denby.

McKiernan converted his overnight score of 90 into three-figures, with Hamidullah Qadri also making 41 as the hosts posted a total of 261, with Sam Robson claiming 3-17.

Needing just seven to win the game, Robson (1*) saw the visitors to a nine-wicket victory at Denby.

Having finished Day Three unbeaten on 90, McKiernan continued to score on the final day, with Qadri providing strong support just as he did in the first innings, scoring 41 before falling to Robson.

The final wicket fell when Robson trapped McKiernan lbw for 134, with Derbyshire all out for 261, setting Middlesex a total of seven to win the game.

Marshall dismissed Nick Gubbins (0) before Robson struck the winning run in the second over.

The Second XI are back in action next week when they face Nottinghamshire at The Pattonair County Ground. Admission is free and the match will also be streamed live on the Derbyshire website.
