Former India, New Zealand and Mumbai Indians Head Coach, John Wright returned to Derbyshire in 2017 as Specialist Twenty20 Coach – with his sole focus on progressing in the Vitality Blast.
Ex-New Zealand international Wright, who scored almost 15,000 runs for Derbyshire between 1977 and 1988, will join the Club in mid-June, subject to relevant paperwork.
He will lead Derbyshire in the NatWest T20 Blast, which is provisionally scheduled to take place from July to early September.
The 62-year-old has a wealth of coaching experience, having been Head Coach of India for five years from 2000, before coaching his native New Zealand from 2010 and leading Mumbai Indians to the Indian Premier League and Champions League double in 2013.
Wright guided Derbyshire to their first quarter-final in the format since 2005 in 2017, and a first ever home last-eight tie at The 3aaa County Ground.
It was a record-breaking campaign as Derbyshire claimed eight victories – a record for a single campaign – and finished second in the North Group to secure a home quarter-final.
Wright will return as Specialist Twenty20 Coach in 2018, alongside Dominic Cork who will also comes back to Derbyshire as Specialist Twenty20 Bowling Coach.
