Flamboyant, proven and a skilful white ball bowler, Derbyshire has signed Pakistan fast bowler Wahab Riaz for this summer’s Vitality Blast.

The adept paceman will arrive ahead of this summer’s competition and be available for the first 10 group stage matches, bringing experience of Twenty20 tournaments from around the world to The 3aaa County Ground.

Riaz possesses all the attributes of a top fast bowler, often bowling at average speeds of around 90 miles per hour which has helped him to amass a total of over 400 wickets in white ball cricket. Throughout his 20 over career, the Pakistan international has taken an impressive 225 wickets in 194 matches with best figures of 5-17.

Despite being a wicket-taker in all formats, Riaz has become a specialist in 20-over tournaments in recent years, making him a valuable addition to the Derbyshire bowling line-up in the Vitality Blast. He also has the ability to strike a ball and score important runs in the lower order with 760 runs in his first class career.

In his experience of 20 over competitions across the globe, Riaz has also performed at the Vitality Blast level with Essex, Kent and Surrey. He has taken 26 wickets in 20 matches including a five wicket haul for Kent against Gloucestershire in 2011.
