Shiv Thakor has committed his long-term future to Derbyshire by signing a new three-year deal which will keep him at the Club until the end of the 2019 season.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed one of his best seasons of his career in 2016 and has become a consistent performer across all three competitions.

Thakor has scored 606 runs at an average of 68, including two centuries, in nine first-class fixtures this summer, along with 22 wickets at an average of 31 including career-best figures of 5-36.

His standout campaign earned him a spot on the Specsavers One to Watch shortlist, listing him as one of six standout performers under the age of 23 across the two divisions.

He also claimed 21 wickets across the two one-day competitions this season and contributed 173 runs.

Head Coach, John Sadler said: “To secure Shiv’s services for the next three years is brilliant for the Club. He is a big player for us across all three formats and someone we can build our team around.

“He worked extremely hard over the winter and he’s reaped the rewards this season. He has been brilliant and he is only going to get better and better.”

Chairman, Chris Grant added: “Shiv is a bright prospect with the potential to be a match winner for Derbyshire and a future England player. His long-term commitment to the Club is illustrative of his belief in our ability to deliver on our plans for success on the field.”

Thakor said: “I’m delighted to commit my long-term future to Derbyshire. The Club has big ambitions for the seasons ahead and everyone is working incredibly hard on and off the field.

“We have a developing squad which is learning all the time and I’m confident that we’ll make progress on the field and start to deliver the consistent performances that are needed to win trophies.”
