As part of a #ThrowbackThursday series, today we look back on the Falcons’ NatWest T20 Blast victory versus Yorkshire Vikings in July at Queen’s Park.

A crowd of over 4,500 attended match which marked the end of the Autoworld Volvo XC90 Chesterfield Festival of Cricket, in association with Chesterfield Borough Council and the Derbyshire players produced one of their best performances of the season to secure a four-wicket win.

It was Falcons Captain Wes Durston who stole the show with a devastating spell of off-spin in which he took career-best figures of 3-14 at the start of the visitors’ innings.

All-rounder Shiv Thakor also proved a threat with the ball, returning 3-34, as Yorkshire could only post 146-9 from their 20 overs after being asked to bat first by Durston.

Wayne Madsen top-scored with the bat in the Derbyshire chase, scoring 41 from 38 balls, after Hamish Rutherford, who will be back at the Club in 2016, had once again got the Falcons off to a great start by hitting 40 off only 24 balls.

It was left to Alex Hughes (19 not out) to hit the winning runs as he kept calm under immense pressure to strike Matt Fisher for a leg-side boundary and bring delight to the Derbyshire supporters who saw their team win by four wickets.
