VIDEO: Olivier proud of Derbyshire stint

Fast bowler Duanne Olivier says it was an honour to represent Derbyshire and he hopes to use the experience as a springboard back into the South Africa Test squad.

The 26-year-old was prolific with the ball during his stint with the Club during which he returned 31 Specsavers County Championship and 13 Royal London One-Day Cup wickets, leading the Club’s tally in both formats.

The paceman will be replaced by New Zealand fast bowler Lockie Ferguson who will serve as overseas player for the Vitality Blast and the final part of the Specsavers County Championship.

Returning to South Africa ready for their A Tour of India after a first experience of the English domestic game, Olivier hopes to continue taking wickets and earn a call-up to the national Test squad.

He said: “Me and my wife have loved every moment. Everyone has been welcoming, from the players and staff to Board Members. I couldn’t ask for better.

“It’s my first season here and I’ve learned a lot about my game on and off the field. It’s been an honor to represent Derbyshire.

“I think it’s a stepping stone. Going back and playing for South Africa A against India and doing well there and getting back into the Test squad will be my main aim.

“Then in the future coming back here and playing for Derbyshire would be great for me as well.”
