Hamish Rutherford will captain Derbyshire in the county’s Specsavers County Championship opener versus Gloucestershire at Bristol, starting on Sunday.

Rutherford, who was named as the Club’s Vice Captain last month, will lead the side in the absence of Billy Godleman who is unavailable due to injury.

The New Zealand international arrived in Derby on Saturday after a successful winter back home, which he captained Otago in all forms and led the side to the domestic Twenty20 final.

Rutherford: “It’s a shame for Billy who has worked so hard over the winter to get cut short so soon, but I’m looking forward to captaining the team next week.”
