VIDEO: Wilson previews Leicestershire fixture

Gary Wilson says this weeks Specsavers County Championship match versus Leicestershire is a good opportunity to respond with a good performance after last week’s defeat.

The wicketkeeper-batsman joins up with Derbyshire after returning from international duty with Ireland, where he played in a Tri-Nation Series against New Zealand and Bangladesh.

He said: “With Ireland we had five tough games against really high quality opposition. It was a good experience to be playing at that level.

“I kept a good eye on [Derbyshire] results and there were a lot of close finishes. We can be reasonably pleased, especially with the way we batted in the Royal London One-Day Cup.”

Derbyshire face Leicestershire at The 3aaa County Ground, starting tomorrow, after suffering an innings and 42-run defeat to Worcestershire in the last fixture in the competition.

Wilson said: “It was disappointing to lose wickets in clusters on the last day against Worcestershire, but we have a good opportunity now to play on our home ground again against Leicestershire and hopefully we can put in a good performance.

If we look after our own game and do the right things then hopefully we can come out on the right side of the result.

“We have to play each ball as it comes as a batter and bowl each ball as a bowler. If we can nail our skill levels and have the right attitude, then hopefully the results down the line will take care of themselves.”
